It’s a fun day today here on the blog because I finally get to share with you the results of our master bedroom makeover. I’m so excited to partner with Stearns & Foster for this project and we are so thrilled with how our bedroom makeover turned out!
If you missed it last week, I shared our plan for our master bedroom makeover and also mentioned that we haven’t updated our bedroom in over five years {yikes!}. Just to recap, below is my design board plan as we started this project. While we didn’t incorporate all the exact pieces in our design board, we did use many of them.
Our main goal for this project was to create a relaxing and beautiful space focused 100% on comfort, which is exactly what we did!
So here is our before shot that I took five years ago of our bedroom:
…and now this is what our bedroom looks like after our makeover:
Pretty big difference, huh?! We just love the transformation and our new serene dream bedroom. I wish I would have done this years ago!
When we first started planning our makeover, my husband and I really wanted to focus on creating the most relaxing, comfortable and serene space that we could envision. Our lives are crazy busy and at night, we just wanted a relaxing and comfy space to recharge. We didn’t love many of the elements in our old bedroom and creating a space that we would absolutely love was our plan.
We started out our focus on our bed first as we started planning. Having a comfortable and luxurious bed was at the very top of our list for our makeover. We really wanted a cocoon of bed to curl up in.
Our new Stearns & Foster mattress is just that! So comfortable and really a dream bed with the hybrid pillowtop and the PrimaSenseâ„¢ Gel Foam that just forms to the body when you settle in. Yes! Like a cocoon!
The Stearns & Foster Reserve No. 1 has eight layers of technology built-in that create the ultimate mattress. I have never really researched mattresses until recently but these layers are really the place to start when comparing mattresses. You can read more about what each of these layers do in the mattress here. Also, if you’re in the market for mattress and want to test the Reserve No. 1 or other Stearns & Foster luxury beds, you can find a retailer here.
One of the other goals for our makeover was to find a serene wall color that would be a lot lighter than the dark and drab color that we had. We went with a color called Window Pane by Sherwin Williams.
You can really see what a huge difference the new color is against our old color when we started getting the color on the wall.
The color turned out so pretty and soothing! Sometimes it looks blue and at night, it looks more green.
I mentioned in last week’s post that one of the other goals for our makeover was to add more functional nightstands. We did end up going with the mirrored drawers/chests that we are using as nightstands. I was nervous about doing this but we were really desperate for more drawer space and I love how well they worked.
Since we were creating our dream bedroom, we decided to have beautiful custom drapes made and they turned out so stunning! They were made locally by Janet Paneitz Interiors. Janet did such an amazing job and I just can’t stop staring at the drapes.
Janet came out and installed them for us, hung my lucite rods and steamed the drapes. What a treat!
We used this Madcap Cottage fabric for the drapes, which was the perfect color and pattern for my color palette:
It has been such an amazing process envisioning and pulling together our dream bedroom sanctuary! My husband and I feel like we now have a “big kid” bedroom with a dream bed, custom beautiful drapery and art that we love. Our bedroom was always at the bottom of our project list and I wish we would have done this makeover sooner.
A big thank you to Stearns & Foster for teaming up with me on our makeover! By the way, be sure and put your name in the Stearns & Foster Ultimate Bedroom Sweepstakes over on HGTV for a chance to win a queen sized Stearns & Foster Reserve mattress + $1,000!!
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers!

Just lovely. The artwork …beautiful. But where are dressers or storage for your clothes? In the night stands?
Cyndy says
Our dressers are in our closets. We have his and her separate closets. We added the dressers for nightstands because my husband and I needed a little extra drawer space. 🙂

Beautiful! Just the shades I want to use in our bedroom when we get around to redoing it. Family room first though 😉 I do have to ask – where did you get the throw that is on the bed? It is gorgeous and really helps tie everything together. Thanks for sharing this amazing redo.
Cyndy says
Thank you so much Heather! If you can believe it, that throw is actually a big wool scarf made by Echo! I bought it last year and started using it as a throw blanket. LOL! 😉

Please, please, please tell me where you found that ARTWORK! Oh my goodness–so very beautiful and calming. sigh

I love the make over! I think you need to update your bed! It looks so outdated in that beautiful room! Even just painted would look better, but I think the style doesn’t match the rest of the room.
Cyndy says
We splurged on the bed when my husband and I first got married and it’s his request that it stay and not be painted. I love the bed as well. The challenge was to update the room around the bed. It was a compromise that we were both happy with. 🙂
Cathy says
The room is beautiful! Love the “night stands”. The colors are so soothing! I agree, the bed frame needs a little paint to update it. There are so many new products out that it wouldn’t be hard to select one that is perfect!
Emily says
Where did you get the bench at the end of the bed? It’s gorgeous!
Cyndy says
Thank you! The bench is made by Bassett but we bought it about 10 years ago. Bassett has great benches with lots of fabric choices, so I’m sure you could find something very similar. 🙂

I think it looks great! The colors are so you! And who takes the time out of their day to list all the things they think you did wrong?? Do they not know you are known, followed, and respected for your style?

Beautiful bedroom – I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, particularly your suggestions on coastal colors. I’m in the process of updating my bedroom and trying to choose a wall color for both my bedroom and adjoining master bath. I like the way you’ve incorporated your existing bed with the new nightstands. I will be doing the opposite of you – keeping my existing cherry furniture, which has great storage and upgrading to an upholstered king headboard with nail head trim that will coordinate with the color of the drawer pulls. I’m a little nervous about the change working, but I think keeping things you love is also important.

Hi, beautiful makeover! Just wondering where you found the night stands?
Cindy Finter says
Just beginning to think about my bedroom makeover. Stopped into my local SW paint store and found the Window Pane Sample. I came home and hit Pinterest looking for people that have used this paint. Love the look of your room and it has sold me on the paint choice.
I would love to know where the plaid blanket came from? I realize your post is a year old but thought it worth a shot to ask.
Thanks
Cyndy says
Thank you so much Cindy! We LOVE this color in our bedroom and it’s so soothing! The plaid blanket I have had for years and it was made by Echo. You’re gonna laugh but I think it may actually be an oversized scarf/wrap! LOL! So check those out online too! Thanks for your sweet note! 🙂

The room ad colors are gorgeous. I’m looking for artwork in those colors – where did you get yours? It’s a perfect piece for that setting.
