I hope you all have had a great week so far! I’m still recouperating from all of the sugar shock from celebrating my daughter’s 9th Birthday over the weekend. I cannot tell you how much sugar we ate from cupcakes in a jar, every kind of gummy stuff  and a little Pop Rocks. Ugh!!
I really can’t believe that my girl is 9 all ready! She is growing up too fast for me. She has the biggest heart and is really blooming and I am so proud of her. Â She continues to take my breath away each day:
I’m the luckiest Momma in the world (pass the kleenex please..) Â Happy Birthday baby girl!!
So Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I thought I would share one of my favorite projects that would be an easy DIY gift idea for Mom, or something special to do for yourself. Â Small open frames are one of the prettiest ways to display little things like an antique pin, intaglios or special shells. These little frames can be used either placed on a desk or bookshelf:
or they can be hung on a wall in a grouping:
Either way, this is a really easy {and inexpensive way} way to create beautiful framed art with something treasured.
I like to use small square desk frames that I find at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby like this for framing my little treasures:
I open the back of the frame, remove the glass and the cut out a piece of adhesive mat stack (fabric card stock) and attach it to the frame insert backing. I then hot glue a shell to the mat and close up the frame:
If I’m going to hang the frames on a wall, I just add a small wall hanger to the back of the frame:
If you want to make a frame with a special shell or something else, you can just wrap your finished frame with cellophane and tie with a bow and write a sweet note about where the shell/treasure came from:
If you have a shell that you found with your Mom or child, this would be such a special gift idea! If you have any ideas of little treasures that we could frame, please share your thoughts in the comment section. Â I know there are all kinds of things we could come up with!
Well friends, I hope the rest of your week is fabulous! Â If you happened to miss this week’s Color Palette Monday, you can catch up on that post by clicking the image directly below. Â This palette is my favorite so far!
Cheers!

I LOVE this idea but, was wondering about how to keep the shells from collecting dust. Seal/varnish,etc them?
Cyndy says
Thanks Janie! I have shells and coral all over my home and do not have a dust problem with them. Every now and then I go through and dust but I have never noticed dust collecting on them. Thanks for stopping by!
