It’s been a crazy week and as usual, I’m down to the wire… I tell myself every year that I’m going to have all my Christmas projects and gifts done WAY ahead of time but {Ugh!} it didn’t happen this year…
Are you down to the wire too? Â Are you even on the computer reading this? Â If you just happen to be looking for something super easy that pretty much anyone can use and would love to receive, Â I have a little last minute quick DIY project for you. All you have to do is attach black vinyl adhesive to these inexpensive cookie jars from Target, fill with sweet treats and you are good to go!
This is a gift idea that would be perfect for a teacher, friend or even a gift for a family. Â I have made it even easier by sharing a free printable template to use as a stencil for you to make these fun chalkboard labels.
Target sells these fabulous large cookie jars made by Anchor Hocking and they come in at least four sizes that I saw in my store. Â The prices range from the smallest being $5.95 to the super large one {great for a gift for a family} for $19.95:
I decided that these would be our gifts for pretty much everyone this year! Â Because these jars are so useful to have and can be used anywhere like the kitchen for sweets, the bathroom filled with soaps, or any other room to store items, I thought that everyone could find a use if they didn’t have a need for a cookie jar. Â For teacher gifts, I used the smallest size. Â For friend gifts, I used the next to the large size ($15.95) and for family gifts, we picked up the largest size.
So let me tell you how to do the label. Â Directly below, you will see a blue hyper link that says “printable chalkboard label stencil”. Â You can click on that link and print out the page on your printer with either standard (8.5 x 11) copy paper or card stock:
Printable Chalkboard Label Stencil
After you print and cut out your printable label stencil, trace the stencil onto the backside of self adhesive black vinyl that you can buy at any craft store {in the scrapbook aisle} that is sold for vinyl machines like the Cricut or Silhouette:
You do not need special chalkboard vinyl because chalk writes perfectly on black vinyl!! Â Also, if you do not have a Cricut or Silhouette and you don’t think you’ll ever have a need for a whole roll, you need to check out this post of mine here that shows you all the fabulous things that you can create with a roll of vinyl without a machine!
After I cut out my printable stencil, I traced my stencil on the backside of the vinyl:
I cut out the vinyl label with small scissors and attached it to the cookie jar:
Once I got the label on the jar, I used the edge of a credit card to smooth out and make sure the adhesive attached well. I then wrote “Sweet Treats” on the labels with chalk. Â {quick tip… Sharpen your chalk with a pencil sharpener for a good writing tip. Â Also, lightly wet your chalk to make your chalk writing brighter and bolder}
I filled the jars with goodies that fit in each size. Â In the small jars, I filled with a bag of chocolate truffles, in the larger sizes, I filled with packages of limited edition Candy Cane Oreo’s:
I then wrapped all of the jars with cellophane, tied a bow and attached a snowflake ornament:
It’s so easy and only takes just a few minutes and I think that people will love them. Â Who couldn’t use one of these fabulous jars, right? Â At least, that’s what I’m hoping!
If you’re looking for other DIY gift ideas, I shared a round up of some of my previous gift projects here. Â You can also click on the image directly below:
Have a great day friends and I am hoping that you all are enjoying your Christmas preparations and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!
