I am really excited about today’s post because for the first time in years, Sherwin Williams has added 200 new GORGEOUS designer-influenced paint colors as part of a new exclusive one-coat/self priming paint collection called Emerald Designer Edition. These colors and paint are now Sherwin Williams highest-end interior paint line.
Before I jump into the details, I want you guys to know that this post is NOT a sponsored post in any way. I’m just a paint geek excited to share with you what I learned researching this new line for my client projects.
These 200 new colors are exclusive to the Emerald Designer Edition paint and can’t be used with other Sherwin Williams paints. The reason for this is that the Emerald Designer paint line is formulated with a completely different “UltraWhite Base”, so if you did ask for these exclusive colors for other SW paints, you would not get the same color because the other white bases are completely different.
Sherwin Williams noted in their press release for the new collection that they based the new colors on requests from interior designer’s who want brighter whites, more complex grays/beiges and more muted tones. Because of the brighter white base, SW can apparently better achieve these hues.
When I first looked at the fan deck, I pretty much gasped because Sherwin Williams nailed it and clearly tapped into what designers are looking for in developing this new collection! Every paint color strip is off the charts good!
I’m already specifying several of the colors for my clients and I wanted to share my top favorite colors from the new collection to inspire you.
At the top of my list is hands-down is Forged Steel SW9565. I can just tell you right now, we are going to be seeing A LOT of this color because it’s THAT good! Ironically, I have been trying to get a really good rich charcoal color by custom mixing and I have never been able to get it quite right. Sherwin Williams nailed that dreamy mix of brown/gray/charcoal color that I have wanted for a project and it’s perfection!
By the way, the other colors that I added to the collage above are from the paint color strip of Forged Steel. I am in LOVE with all of these colors on the strip and often times work from one strip to make sure all of the colors in a space work together (trim, door color, cabinetry, wall, etc..).
Below is the Forged Steel color strip.
Forged Steel is perfect for moody walls, cabinetry and interior doors. In fact, I’m going use this color on a whole home for all the interior doors on a client project I’m working on. Isn’t it stunning?

At a very close second to my favorite Forged Steel is this GORGEOUS deep muddy green called Succulent. Oh my gosh!! It’s so so beautiful! By the way, this color strip is amazing as well!
Sherwin Williams used Succulent in this space beautifully on cabinetry with a color from the new collection called SW White Sail (I’m loving this subtle white).

Another favorite that I cannot wait to try is Guild Grey, which is actually the lightest color on the Forged Steel color strip. I think this color would make for the perfect whole home wall color in certain lighting conditions.
Guild Grey reminds me of a little a tad cooler Repose Gray. I’m thinking Guild Grey would be great in a home with not a lot of natural light. It would lighten/brighten with hint of color on the wall.

I’m also excited to use Serenely and all of the other colors on the Serenely paint color strip. It’s just a stunning muted blue that doesn’t have too much pigmentation.

Another pretty color is Warm Pewter. It’s a mid-toned true greige.

I also like Whisper, which is the darker wall color below. Notice the white brick color too! It’s called White Sesame and it’s a dull very light warm gray.

As far as the quality of the new Sherwin Williams Emerald Designer Edition paint, I have heard really great things about the product from several different paint contractors that I work with that have tried it as well. While it’s definitely more expensive than the traditional Emerald paint, the great news is that it’s a self-priming one-coat paint, so you will not need as much to cover a room, which saves money in the long run in using less paint. I also LOVE that this line comes in a scrubbable flat!! Such great news because I prefer to use flats in my client projects because it makes such a difference on a wall.

I’m getting ready to try out this new paint and colors on a client project, so I will let you guys know what I think and share the finishes with you. In the meantime, if any of you have tried it, please let me know what you think in the comment section below.
So what do you think? Is there a color jumping out at you that you would use? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for stopping by today friends!
Cheers!

Exciting!! And the Forged Steel colour is gorgeous. I’m already thinking of projects that these colours will be perfect for. Can’t wait to get the fan deck. Thank you

Oooh! Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate you explaining how the formulation of the new line is different.
I am a huge Sherwin Williams girl. So often, we’ve been able to change wall colors radically with one (or sometimes two coats), and generally with no primer at all. And SW is so durable! Best paint ever.

They look like beautiful colours. I look forward to your review of the paints you use in clients homes.
Serenely looks like it might have some green undertones to the blue or is that just my monitor?
Cyndy says
Yes! The colors are stunning! Serenely has a very SLIGHT green in undertone. It’s a gorgeous color. Thanks for your note!

Well I’m running, not walking, to my SW store to get samples of the White Sail, White Sesame and Serenely to try in my house! You didn’t mention but wondering if they’ll make available in the sample paint testers or quarts????
Cyndy says
I don’t think they can do small samples of the paint yet. At least my local store says they can’t yet. Not sure if they have quarts yet. BUT, they should have the brochures with the paint card colors. Let me know if your store has sample pots yet. Thanks Deb!!

I need to get my hands on that paint deck pronto! It looks like a one stop shop for great color options! Thanks for the share!

You’re going to LOVE!! So so good! They really nailed it!!

Hi Cindy,
Do you know if I can get an older SW color made with this new paint?
My living room is painted in Alabaster but it needs to be refreshed. I’d like to use the same color.

I found this line a couple weeks ago and melted. I am considering a few of them.
Could use a word from you, please. I had been focused on Peppercorn for an accent wall that is all cabinetry in a very bright large room with predominantly south, north and farther west light. I am now debating Forged Steel instead of PC. PC goes very battleship (tad purple/maybe dated) and Forged Steel seems deeper or, tad green? I plan to decorate with Grey’s, taupes and creams. Quartz and cabs are warm to neutral.
Can you give any insights on the undertones of these two paints for this scenario?
And possibly a light wall color for suggestion for both?
Thanks for all you great articles!!

Thanks for your review. Very helpful! I am trying to chooses colors for our new build and am thinking guild gray for whole house with forged steel for interior doors. What color trim would you recommend for a nice contrast? I’m thinking either gypsum or white snow? Or could pure white work as well?

Trying to choose between various colors in the Emerald line. What is your opinion on undertones between say Guild Grey and Skipping Rocks. I seem to have a problem with violet undertones having a pink cast in many greys and yet I don’t want to get too blue. Normally, I would buy large pieces of foam core and make big samples but the stores don’t have sample paint right now and they say you can’t make samples of these new colors anyway. Opinions?

You mentioned that you will use the Forged Steel color on a whole home for all the interior doors on a client project. I love the idea. Do you have any update on the project? What are the wall colors you selected for the house?

Hi, thinking of using the Serenity on a front door on a new build coastal home and also the island in kitchen and the inside paint on walls crushed ice and the outside board & batten vertical, possibly painting the top half crushed ice and bottom extra white , what are your thoughts ?
