I am a HUGE fan of Millhaven Homes based in Utah and I know that many of you are big fans as well! Millhaven is known in the design/home building community of being a leader when it comes to fresh design ideas, innovation and craftsmanship. I look forward all year to seeing Millhaven’s annual parade home because we always know that it will be LOADED with some of the most creative design ideas.
Millhaven’s 2019 parade home that I toured a few weeks ago during the Utah Valley Parade of Homes was such a treat to see in person and I can’t wait to share it all today with you guys. You’re gonna LOVE it! 🙂 A really big thank you to Russ with Millhaven for giving me a private tour and answering my endless questions. The design work and furnishings in the home was done by Remedy Furniture and Design Center.
I’m still dreaming about last year’s Millhaven parade home, which was one of the prettiest modern farmhouses I have ever seen. If you missed that tour last year, you can see it here.
This year’s Millhaven parade home is a beautiful mix of modern farmhouse/traditional with more contemporary touches. Modern farmhouse design style is really evolving and this year’s Millhaven home is a great example of how this design style is morphing and changing in new construction. While we’re still seeing board and batten on the exterior, many of the new construction modern farmhouse style homes that I have been seeing lately now include stone exterior accents like this year’s Millhaven home.
As you walk into the home, I was immediately met with a really creative (and inexpensive) wall treatment throughout the whole entryway. I’m not sure what you would call it (I called it a reverse shiplap) but they used either a 1 x 2 trim piece or lattice molding on the wall that was equally spaced similar to the width of wood or shiplap. Take a look.
Isn’t that so smart?! It’s a really inexpensive and easy way to add some drama.
Below you can see how this simply treatment really makes a statement.
I can’t wait to do this treatment somewhere! This would also be a quick and easy way to do one focal accent wall in a bedroom or entryway.
The wall color in the hallways and throughout several of the rooms is Sherwin Williams Drift of Mist, which is a fantastic color to use if you’re looking for just a slight hint of color. If you look at where the wall meets the baseboard, you can get a better fell for this pretty color.
Drift of Mist is a slight warm gray that is very light and subtle.
As you walk into the main area of the home, the home is very open and the kitchen, dining and living room are one big great great room.
I was really inspired by the color palette used throughout this home including slate blue, light warm gray, tan and white.
The designer incorporated mid-century modern (Danish modern) furniture and accents and I just loved the mix.
What was so interesting to me as I walked through this home is this really fresh mix of mid century modern-meets modern farmhouse. Again, as we talk about how modern farmhouse is evolving in new construction, this home leans more modern with farmhouse elements. For example, instead of traditional shaker style kitchen cabinetry used in traditional farmhouse, Millhaven opted for a flat front European modern style of cabinetry but notice the traditional farmhouse natural wood accent in the vent hood and the squared off traditional farmhouse style trim at the ceiling.
You can really tell walking through this home that the design team and builders worked very closely together and the result is magic!
As I looked closely at the kitchen, I noticed so many fresh ideas from the black slate backsplash tile patterns to the custom shiplap vent hood.
Again, we see the traditional farmhouse element of shiplap in the vent hood but they painted it in a dark moody color and accented with natural wood.
The builder told me that the black slate backsplash was cut on-site to create this custom pattern. I really fell in LOVE with this look!
The hardwood floors throughout the home were absolutely gorgeous! They are wide-plank European oak.
Off the kitchen was a large mudroom that exited the back door. The cement tiled patterned floors mixed with the oak storage lockers was a beautiful combination!
As you walk down the entryway hallway, I loved the modern sliding barn doors to an office. The dark rich color is Sherwin Williams Grays Harbor.
I love to see small powder rooms painted in dramatic dark moody colors and the Millhaven’s powder room on the first floor was stunning! Grays Harbor was used on the walls in the powder room as well but it looks a little warmer because of the warmer lightbulbs used.
As you head up to the second floor, the stairway walls have another creative wall treatment. Again, very simple but it adds so much focal interest.
The landing as you come up to the second floor has a little reading nook that is also stunning. SW Grays Harbor on the bookshelves contrasted with the lighter walls brings all the drama.
Again, we’ve been talking a lot about how much we’re seeing these dark moody accent colors used on cabinetry, doors and accent walls and I really love how they did it in the Millhaven home with Grays Harbor. Just look at how deep and rich this color is.
On a side note, I also loved the mix of this shade of leather was carried through the home on chairs, leather pillows and leather accents. Really stunning combination.
The master bedroom was white a very light and airy. One of the things I love about Millhaven Homes is they always do something amazing on all the ceilings. Whether natural wood beams as seen in the living room or millwork in the bedrooms.
Just look at this comfy bed with all of the beautiful textiles. All of the furnishings, textiles and furniture in the home was designed by Remedy Furniture and Design Center in Utah.
Sherwin Williams Drift of Mist is the wall color in this beautiful bedroom.
The master bedroom closet was a total dream space loaded with so many smart storage ideas.
The upstairs laundry room was a total dream space! Not only was it huge but I loved the black tiled floors mixed with oak cabinetry. Notice all of the great storage as well.
I fell in love with the white backsplash tile in this laundry room. Really pretty mixed with the oak cabinets.
Millhaven always comes up with some of the most creative built-ins for kids bedrooms and I loved this elegant bunkbed combination. So fun!
The basement in this home was huge and included a basketball court!! Yes! A huge basketball court that would for sure keep the kids from climbing the walls durning those snowy cold Utah winters.
I loved this pretty built-in reading nook under the basement stairs.
There was so many more details that I wanted to share from this home but I have run out of room. If I add any more images, I’m afraid this post won’t load properly. Isn’t is amazing?! What’s your favorite spot in the home? It’s hard for me to pick a favorite because I loved it all so much but the spot looking from the living into the dining and kitchen really took my breath away. Millhaven always manages to take home construction to a new and fresh level. If you live in the Utah area and are thinking about building a new home, I would for sure visit with Millhaven Homes. You can contact them directly via their website here for more information.
You can follow along with Millhaven’s projects on their Instagram here. Also, you can find Remedy (the design firm of the home) on Instagram here as well.

The thing I’m finding interesting is all u ever read is gray is out beige is in …
looks like gray is still going strong .
Things have warmed up some but still the gray white and black is still holding on …
I think that the gray is easier to work with then beige ….
Just my thoughts ….

Isn’t it amazing?! I wish you could have walked through this home. It was such a treat! Yes! It drives me crazy when I to read that these so called “color experts” say gray is out. Gray is not going anywhere anytime soon! It’s just slightly warming and lightening up in new construction. One popular color expert said 10 years ago that gray was just going to be a fad and not last when it first started trending. Every year for 10 years she says that gray was on its way out. LOL! Of course, this is the same color expert that said lighting doesn’t impact a paint color in a space. What a joke! Thanks for your note Nancy! 🙂

I pinned so many beautiful ideas! The Reverse Ship Lap blew my mind! It’s basically board and batten for the inside! I just love that! I’m still in love with gray. It’s that clean look I love without being an overpowering white mass of color. Great post, thanks!

Wow! This house is stunning! I’m especially loving the slate backsplash. Does anyone know the kitchen cabinet color? It seems like it’s a bit darker than the wall color. Not sure if it is more beige or warm gray but it is beautiful.

Hi,
Curious about the white backsplash in the laundry room. Where did this come from? How many inches wide are the tiles? I can only find 4”. I don’t think the ones in this design are that thick. Love love love
