The last few weeks, I have been sourcing and researching pegolas for a design client who wants to update her small backyard and patio area. Throughout my sourcing, I have been so blown away by all of the beautiful outdoor pergolas that are available on the market for all budgets and sizes and today I wanted to share these great sources for beautiful outdoor pergolas and pergola kits with you guys. If you too want to add some shade and beauty to your backyard, I think you will be just as inspired as I am with the possibilities!
There are SO many different possibilities when it comes to pergolas. You’ll find them made of pressure treated wood, metal, vinyl and heavy duty commercial-grade plastic. You’ll also find a great range of pergolas for every budget from smaller metal pergolas starting at $150.00 all the way to huge sized pergolas in the $8,000-$10,000 price range. I’m going to break down the online sources for pergolas based on price point below.

Budget Pergolas: Under $500
I have been especially surprised by the number of fantastic (and pretty) budget pergolas available on the market under $500.00. These pergolas would be great if you have a very small yard in the city or if you’re looking to add a shaded area on the patio or backyard.
This aluminum 9 ft. x 9 ft. pergola below with adjustable screen is only $389.00 and I think such a fantastic deal and perfect for lounging or covering a round outdoor dining table and chairs.
Another fantastic deal is this PVC vinyl white pergola for $446.00 that is large enough to cover a dining table. While it won’t provide a ton of shade, it would be a beautiful addition to a backyard or patio.
I also really love this modern steel frame pergola gazebo below with retractable canopy. It’s a large sized pergola as well (10 ft. x 12 ft.). I’m actually thinking about ordering one of these myself for our pool area that gets way too much sun and is always so hot. Can you believe it’s only $499.00? The gray version is $399.00!
Target has several really pretty budget pergolas and I love this 8 x 8 retractable roman shade pergola made of steel in black. They added lights at the top and it’s modern and pretty. It’s $479.00
I ran across this 8 ft. x 8ft. outdoor covered bar gazebo set with barstools for only $381.00 from Overstock and I thought this would be great for entertaining for a covered buffet/bar.
If you’re looking for something temporary just for the summer or even a pretty cover for an outdoor party, I cannot believe this pergola/canopy below is only $155.00! The fabric is water resistant and I love the modern look!

Medium Price Range Pergolas: Under $2,000
As we get above $500.00, we start seeing beautiful wood pergolas that are larger and so pretty. If you’re looking for something sturdy that will last for years, you’ll need to look at this medium price range. The good news is that there are tons of beautiful pergola options in the $500-$2,000 price range. Here are some of my favorites!
I think (by far) one of the best deals out there for this price range is this large 14 ft. x 10 ft. all cedar construction pergola from Backyard Discovery for $1,399.00 below. The reviews are fantastic and this is one of the pergola’s I’m recommending for my client. Keep in mind, if you’re not wanting a natural wood color finish, this pergola could be stained white, gray or even ebony.
Also from Backyard Discovery is this gorgeous Oasis 14 ft. x 10ft pergola with electric outlets, a bar and a bench! Hello! The reviews are also great for this pergola and the price is $1,699.00.
Another great deal out there is this Backyard Discovery 14′ x 10′ Silverton Pergola with electric outlets for $899.00. This one is below is sold through Sam’s Club here.
I really love the modern design of this 12 ft. x 12 ft. cedar pergola also sold by Sam’s Club here. It’s hard to find modern cedar pergola designs and this is fabulous! This is another option I’m recommending to my client!
For a larger pergola option, I found this fantastic looking Grande 12 ft. x 24 ft. white vinyl pergola that is $1,899.00. I think that’s a great price for the size and adding this to the back of a home would instantly beautiful dress up a patio. The reviews for this pergola are really great as well and people that have purchased it are very happy!
If you’re looking for a closed roof pergola option, I like this (interior dimensions) 9’10½” x 9’ 5½” cedar pergola for $1,699.00 below. It’s pretty and can provide a lot of shade over a seating area or table.
Another pretty closed roof option is this modern hard top pergola/gazebo that’s 10 ft. x 13 ft. for $1,119.00 at Sam’s Club here.
Splurge Pergolas: Under $10,000
There are a lot of larger pergola kit options under $10,000 and again, it depends on what type of material, size and whether you want to DIY the set up yourself or have someone install it. Of course, having someone install it is more expensive.
Forever Redwood is a company that sells a lot of different pergola designs with the option of self assembly or installation. I really like their designs and also like that their website is set up to customize any pergola design and they offer live help to go beyond the customization available on their site. From my research, it appears that if you can dream it up, they can create it for you.
I really like the Forever Redwood Silverado Modern Pergola that pricing starts at $5,690.00. It’s just a basic modern pergola design that could be attached to a home or free standing.
I also like Forever Redwood’s Traditional Wooden Garden Pergola that while pricing starts at $3,600.00 for the smallest size (8 ft), you can customize as large as 60 ft and add on accessories like privacy panels, type of wood, electric, roof widths, etc.. The size below is 25 ft. x 15 ft. Isn’t it pretty?!
Pergola Kits is another online source for pergolas that offers customization. They offer wood, fiberglass and metal options. This white fiberglass pergola kit that includes a wall mount to mount to a house or wall starts at $5,763.00.
In addition to offering traditional pergolas, Pergola kits offers several different pergola options with roofs. Again, this site offers customization so you can choose any size that fit the space. Their white vinyl kit with roof starts at $5,222.
When you start getting up to really large sized pergolas or pavilions, it’s best to also get quotes from local builders because it may be less expensive to have the pergola built and supplied locally. Shipping costs and installation really add up!
Last year, we built a large 26 ft. x 26 ft. pergola/pavilion that we had constructed and sourced locally.
Because ours was so large and we were also doing an outdoor kitchen and huge patio, a kit really wasn’t an option. If you want to read more about our project, you can find that post here. I also shared a list a tips for hiring contractors, outdoor kitchen sources and coming up with an outdoor kitchen/pergola plan here.
If you’re looking to add an outdoor pergola to your backyard, I hope their is something here that inspires you! I’ve been through the process both with myself and clients so if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comment section below and I will get right back to you!
Thanks for stopping by today friends!

These are great, but we live in an area of California that is at high risk for wildfire, so we are very careful to use materials near the house that are fire resistant, including patio furniture, landscaping, etc. I would love to find a beautiful metal version of some of these. On the hunt!
Love your posts! Thank you for sharing all you do.
