I’m starting a new feature today called “Inspired Design”, where I’m highlighting some amazing and inspiring designers. I have so many favorite designers that have inspired me so much over the years and I really wanted to share their work with you in hopes that you will be just as inspired.
When I decided to start this feature, I immediately knew who I would highlight first. In my 4 years of blogging, no other designer has inspired me more than Martha O’Hara from Martha O’Hara Interiors based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota (my original home town).
Martha and her design firm have brought me years of so much joy and inspiration, it’s hard for me to even know where to begin. Let me just start by showing you some of Martha and her firm’s work:
If you look closely at all of the images above, you will see a common thread in all of Martha’s designs. First and foremost, Martha must place a lot of emphasis on not only designing beautiful spaces but also creating highly functional and user friendly spaces at the same time. Balancing beautiful interiors in high traffic family spaces is very challenging but Martha and her design team have a beautifully organized answer for everything:
Secondly, Martha and her team have inspired me to a whole other level with their choices in color palettes and paint colors. Calm, livable, happy but serene is Martha’s specialty as she layers colors and I just can’t get enough of what she stirs together. Time after time, Martha just nails the perfect wall color for a space. Not just any wall color but subtle vividness (if that’s such a thing) and her eye for color is an extraordinary gift in my opinion. So many of my paint color pins on my Pick a Paint Color Board on Pinterest and my color palettes over the years have come from finding them in her firm’s designs:
Built In Color is Benjamin Moore Forget Me Not
The third element that is always carried through all of Martha’s projects are the beautiful furnishings and subtle layering that really pulls each space together. I stay amazed by the choices of furnishings that are always just the absolute perfect piece for the space. The layering of patterns, fabrics and textures are also Martha’s specialty and I can’t wait to see what patterns and textures they’ll mix together next.
There is so much inspiration and design ideas that Martha and her team share and I am so glad I found her years ago. I always look forward to her next project and check Houzz regularly to see if she has uploaded anything. By the way, this is just a very small snippet of Martha and her team’s work. You can look through all of O’Hara Interiors projects here on Houzz. Be sure a check out Martha O’Hara Interiors portfolio as well here on their website for even more inspiration.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Cheers!

BEAUTIFUL! And I totally get what you mean by ‘subtle vividness’. So spot on! The colors catch your attention, but not in an overly bold way. I love all of the rooms you featured – those office built ins are amazing, and I don’t think I would ever leave those bedrooms (unless I was hanging out in a fab kitchen, that is). 😉

I adore the color pallette in the bedroom…appears to be a green…wonder what it is?
Cyndy says
The bedroom color is actually a blue gray. The color is Benjamin Moore Silver Gray. The trim color is Ben Moore White Dove. Hope that helps Josie!
