It’s a happy today for all of us paint geeks because as you can see in the post title, Joanna Gaines has announced that she is coming out with a line of chalk paint!! Yay!
The official name of the paint is called “Magnolia Home Chalk Style Paint”. I have been SO excited to tell you guys about it and share all the details from my trip to Waco to hang out and paint with Chip and Joanna Gaines!!
If you follow along with me on Instagram, you may have seen my Insta-Stories and pics from the event. It was such a wonderful and exciting day! Better yet, Joanna (and Chip) are paint geeks themselves and I loved every minute talking colors, finishes and tips with them. They were so fun and so very down-to-earth!
Just a little background for those of you who don’t know- last year, Joanna Gaines launched her interior paint line in partnership with KILZ paint. The line is called Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines and there are over 150 gorgeous colors available. I still cannot get over (but SO not surprised) how beautiful the colors are that Joanna hand picked for her line and I wrote a post with all the details last year here.
So a couple weeks ago, KILZ invited me to go to the Silos in Waco to learn more about Joanna’s/Magnolia Home chalk paint line, which will be available to the public later in the spring. The event was hosted by Chip, Joanna and KILZ and we were also there to learn more about KILZ paints with a lot of testing and playing with all of the paints. As a paint geek, it was the ultimate dream day for me on so many levels!
I’m really excited about Jo’s chalk style paint for several reasons. First, the partnership between KILZ and Jo is so smart because it doesn’t get much better than KILZ paint products. If you’re familiar with KILZ, than you know exactly what I mean. I swear by their stain blocking primers, so just imagine how great the interior paint line is, as well as the chalk paint.
During the event, we painted all kinds of items (trays, frames, boxes, etc..) with the chalk style paint and waxes (dark and clear). I was so excited to see the finish because what really impressed me the most (besides the colors) was the coverage of the paint and how the paint basically covered unfinished wood in one coat. That has been one of my biggest frustrations with other chalk paint brands is that it takes several coats. Of course, no surprise because it’s KILZ paint, which is known for amazing primer coverage.
You can see below just how awesome this paint covers in one coat. Better yet, it’s also a fast drying paint, so really, they thought of everything. Also, if you look below at the side of the tray where the paint dried, you can really see just how pretty and matte the finish is. BTW, this color is called “Weekend“.
There are 44 colors that will be available in the Magnolia Home Chalk Style Paint. Again, another big frustration with traditional chalk type paints is there is usually only 10-20 colors in the line. Now the problem is going to be making a final color decision!
I looked through all of the chalk paint finish colors during the event and these are my favorites! I also tested most of these as well!
So many just stunning colors! Magnolia Home also has a dark and a clear wax to go over the chalk paint and they were fabulous! In fact, while we were all painting and playing, Jo was also painting these sweet little boxes for her daughter with us and you can see just how beautiful the dark and clear waxes looked over the colors.
So again, Jo’s Magnolia Home Chalk Style Paint will be available to the public shortly (later Spring) and it will be available in quart size online at Magnolia Market. You guys are gonna LOVE it!! I just have to tell you guys too, I have been hearing rumors that all of Magnolia Home Paints may be available in stores very soon (not sure which ones but..) I have my fingers crossed that we’ll hear that announcement very soon. I’ll let you guys know and I’ll also let you know when the chalk paint is up on the site!
A big thank you to KILZ, Magnolia Home Paint and Chip and Joanna for inviting me for this amazing day! There was so much other stuff I wanted to share with you guys about the Silos, meeting Chip and Joanna and hanging out at Magnolia Market that next week, I will share another post with more details.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers!

They are going to be $29.00 for a quart. Good price in comparison to other chalk paints. A little goes a long way too! 🙂

Hello, I am hoping you can help me. In searching for the Magnolia chalk paint there is an image of a Victorian Bed with a gray quilt and white ruffle pillows that I have come across. I am in love with the color and was wondering if you happen to know what it is or if it was mentioned at the event you attended. Thank you

Where can I buy it?

Do you know when the chalk paint is available. I have not been able to find it on their online store to purchase.

Hi! I’ve been searching for the chalk style paint to purchase, but I simply can’t find it. Everything I’ve read makes it sound like it was released in late spring, but I’m still not seeing it on the Magnolia Home website. Any idea where I can buy it?

I ordered the Shiplap color from Target, and tomorrow I’ll be using it to paint a cabinet in the dining room. I’m so excited! Thank you Joanna for coming up with this great product and such gorgeous colors.
